brain size and structure

one of my earlier post was about the brain size and if the size is relevant to intelligence but i found out that the size does not matter at all. in chapter five mention that Albert Einstein after dead he donate his brain in order to do research. they found out that Albert's brain was about avg. size but found out that had more neurons and some with larger axons. maybe the size doesn't matter but what it matter is what is inside the brain. the book mention that the amount of axons and the size of them plus the amount of neurons makes the brain work better and most of the time those are just located in some parts on the brain and those parts are more developed.

the structure of the brain is more likely the same in mammals the parts of the brain are in the same parts comparing the mammalians brain. the only changes presented are the size of those brain's parts for example the olfactory bulb is larger in dogs than in humans therefore dogs have a greater sense of smell.

  1. Hahaha!! that video was funny, but hey, easier to remember the parts of the brain right?. Also, you talked about the size of the brain and intelligence. That reminded me about the far transfer concept, that if I understan it correctly, teaching one task, for example math, music, etc. will help improve people's intelligence in general, when in fact it only make them good at that certain task. Far transfer is cery difficult to demonstrate....great video though ;)

  2. That was an awesome video to pick to show what we are studying. The song was actually catchy (I must admit I watched it more than once!) Moving along you mention the size of the brain. If I read correctly you say that the actual size of the brain does not matter in relevance to intelligence I am assuming. But, I was wondering if any of Einstein's brain was a bit larger. I'm not sure if that comment came out clear but, I was referring to the book where it said some areas of expertise can be larger. Such as a musician can exercise the brain and make that area larger than normal.
