it is amazing how the brain work and its structure. the brain is basically divide in two, the right and the left hemisphere that they are totally separated but only united by the corpus callosum. each hemisphere has its own characteristics and control different parts, abilities and functions in our body.
the left hemisphere: it controls the whole right proportion of the body. the left hemisphere also perceives visual and physical sensations from the right half of the body. it also the main controller of language, consciousness, handedness (that is, if one is right or left handed, is directly related to language representation in the brain. the exceptions being those who were forced to become right or who became left handed following a brain injury) and ego-centric speech and the origin of thought
This topic has been one of the most interesting ones so far. You talked about the funtions of each hemisphere and I think the picture that you got there makes it very clear for me. I have a question though. On the right part of the picture it says "Gestalt" whole picture, does that mean that with the left hemisphere we can appreciate details like the example of the big letter composed of very small ones? that wasn't very clear, I just hope I got it right. I know that the two hemispheres process information in different ways, but does one side dominate more than the other? and if it is like that, are we the ones that choose that preference? Wow! too many questions, sorry, they just came to mind right now. Thank you for the information, I will look a little more into it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic it kind of goes hand in hand with one of my previous posts about, the body functioning in ways we are unaware of. It was helpful when the video you posted showed the experiment we read about in the book. The one with the little letters making a big letter and how a person with a damage to the hemispheres would have trouble being able to identify the larger letter.
ReplyDeleteWhile I like all the info you share in your blog, it kind of feels impersonal, what do you think about how your brain work? Did you know how much affect each side of the brain has on the other? When it comes to studying the body its a very personal matter because its what your made up of, this is how your brain works and what it does while you go through your day.
