sex differences in the hypothalamus
so i was reading that the hypothalamus has different functions but never thought that it has to do with the sex too.
in men, one section of the anterior area of the hypothalamus controls the sexual behaviors.

There are a number of functunal sex differences reported in the hypothalamus. I knew that the hypothalamus has many different funtions, but as you, I didn't know about the control of sexual behavior.
ReplyDeleteThe hypothalamus contains cells that produce dopamine, oxytocin, as well as vasopressin, these hormones are released into the blood stream and then send to other organ systems, like the pituitary. Great post, I learned a lot on this subject. Thanks.
I, too, found it interesting that the hypothalamus was related to sex. I honestly thought it just had to do with different motor skills and memory but not sex. It just becomes very obvious as the chapters go on that our brain does amazing things and is in charge of all the things that occur in our body.
ReplyDeleteThe video linked in your post clearly explains all the basic controls that the hypothalamus creates, wants, needs, and "drives" for which includes Sexual/reproduction, Thirst/The drive to find water, internal temperature, hunger, aggression, and pleasure. I find it interesting that when you take a look at the majority of societies idea of "Sex" and the perversions that follow, you will find that it includes things such as "hunger" and "aggression". You may even be able to find the connection in hip-hop music lyrics "It's getting 'hot' in here, so take off all your clothes". This relation may be attributed to the fact that all of these needs/drives are located in the same hypothalamus area making it easier to correlate two or more of these feelings together.
