i had never seen someone sleepwalk but when i was young my brother and I used to sleep in the same bedroom. one night i saw him standing on his bed and i talk to him and he did not do anything and when he tried to walk he felt down of bed and he stay there all night. that was the only time i have seen a sleepwalker.
i read that it occurs mostly in children and its very rare that it happens in adults. they have not well understood what might cause sleep walking. some factors that lead to sleep walking is the consumption of alcohol, drugs or any other medication. people that are sleepwalking, they do not experience of being dreaming.
there are myths that said that you should never wake a sleepwalker because it may provoke some mental consequences or damage. but there is no danger in waking them up.
Very interesting, all my three brothers used to sleep-walk. One of them even open the door once and went outside just in time for my parents to get him. I used to talk to them when they were sitting down in bed or when they were going to the kitchen to get something, it was funny because they would answer my questions and could carry on a conversation. In the book it says that nothing will happen if you wake them up and it is interesting because I was under the impression that it was a bad thing to do. What I don't understand is if this happens mosty in children, then why in the video the Dr said that some of the reasons could be alcohol consumption, drugs, or other medications? Do you think that genetics can have something to do since my three brothers used to do it? I used to talk a lot in my sleep and once I went to visit my grandma and I had to sleep with my aunt because there wasn't anough room for all of us. The next morning she told me that I went on top of her, and very angry I started to punch her in the face, she put me down to bed any way she could. I felt so bad, every night I used to go to bed worried thinking what I was going to do next. From my experience, I strongly believe this has to do more with what children had to go through, problems in the family, etc. Great topic.
ReplyDeleteI used to sleep walk when I was younger. I, of course, do not remember it but from what my mom told me it was really interesting the things that I would do. One time I went and told my mom I was hungry and I had a full conversation with her yet I do not remember and by the time my mom had made me food I was already back in bed. I do believe that genetics is involved with sleepwalking though because my aunt used to sleep walk when she was younger as well. I wonder if one day they will be able to determine what exactly is the cause of sleep walking.
